Have you picked your word for 2014? Are you going to? I actually was able to sit down at my favorite Starbucks the other morning and talk with the Lord a bit about 2014.
2013 was a year of introspection, of finding myself, my home style, my homeschooling style, my place with the Lord, and on and on. I didn’t expect to need to find anything at 32 years old, aren’t we supposed to have everything figured out by our 30’s? Or was that our 40’s?
So there I sat drinking my Venti Mocha with my tons of notebooks sprawled everywhere on the table and my Bible open, waiting to tell me something. I wrote down 12 words that immediately sprung to mind and kept narrowing them down, one by one. The check in my spirit was strong as I struck out each word with a pink pen. Then I had four. Then I had two. Then there was one.
And not the one I thought it would be.
UP
Just two letters long. What does it mean?
And then I asked for a verse to go along with it (don’t worry, God is in the business of giving us what we ask for…so go ahead and ask away!)
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted, but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount UP with wings like eagles…They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:28-31
Why don’t these men fall? Because they look UP for their strength, outside of themselves and to the ONE who saves them.
And us Moms..sometimes we need a lot of saving. Some days more than others.
I challenge you not to just survive this year. This is not a year of plugging on and just barely making it. Are you a tired Mama? Are you just now deciding to homeschool? Are you a creative who is taking her business to the next level? No it’s not going to be easy…not at all…but you don’t just have to settle for last year’s enough.
